I don’t know what it’s called when one raises up on the high hat on the offbeat, but it ends up sounding kinda like disco, but probably isn’t anywhere close. I should ask Ms. Hipster what that is, as she plays the drums, but I’m lazy. Anyway, there’s a lot of that going on here. Which means it’s a funky beat and you can dance to it. It’s not as if every song here is a dancefloor burner, though, as they certainly have their more emo moments as well. Kinda sounds like a Promise Ring / Dismemberment Plan mash-up. Oh wait, it is. The album isn’t going to blow anybody away with its uniqueness or sensibilities, but it is a very listenable pop record and Davey von Bohlen improves his singing with each album.
