It’s like Nine Inch Nails minus the scary S&M, or later-day Beck if he had gone the natural trajectory of Mellow Gold. The music all tape hiss and pots and pans, the singing removed and sometimes fed through weird modulators, this album is like industrial breakdown. It feels like your toaster and his well-worn appliance buddies formed a band and got together for an all-star jam in the kitchen. It’s an amazing feat that these guys could make an album that is so non-human, but so affecting at the same time.
