It’s always interesting when a bar owner feels the need to take what is essentially a generic, personalityless joint and open another location under the same name. I mean nothing says authenticity and personal care than a pub chain. And, of course, nothing says chain like Times Square. So, let’s recap: here’s a generic Irish pub in a generic neighborhood that leaves one asking the question “why?” The answer, as you know, is that there is money to be made off of tourists and after-work folks who want to watch sports and get inebriated and generally spend their time anywhere that will serve them in a space close to their hotels and buses. And most of ’em just don’t know any better. [MF]
