We’re not quite sure what an “Indian bistro” is (it’s printed on Dakshin’s awnings), but we’re willing to bet there ain’t no baguettes or pomme frites in this joint. Okay, we know there is absolutely no French food of any kind lingering in the kitchen of this positively Indian restaurant, but who the hell is gonna get Frog grub on Ninth Ave anyway? Luckily for us, our friends from the East have put together a nice spread for us without any intervention from those cheese-eating Euros. While more expensive than the Chinese lunch special, a mid-afternoon meal at Dakshin certainly won’t break the bank, and will leave you warm and satisfied in your curry coma. Everything we ate was tasty and plentiful, and did its best not to offend our senses. Our only regret is that we didn’t eat the lunch buffet that obviously requires sitting in the empty restaurant and gorging yourself on plate after plate of eggplant mush, chicken stuff and some sort of garbanzo bean salad. Everyone swears by it, so we’ll have to take their word for it. [MF]
