[CLOSED]
A mighty roar went up on the UES when Sweet Melissa’s closed its doors. OK, we did hear one high-school student call it the “end of an era.” Opened in its place is the much more adult-themed Copper Lounge. After further review of our surveillance photographs, we are still unable to discern why this bar is called Copper Lounge. There is a three-foot strip of copper below the bar. Maybe that’s it? And nobody is fooled into thinking this is a lounge–a couple couches and lower lighting does not a lounge make. So, basically, this is still Sweet Melissa’s with a little more furniture, a strip of copper and a couple wall sconces. We think the lounge moniker lets them charge more for drinks, and keeps the Pokéman crowd away. [MF]
