2AOverall, one of the best bars around. Sure, the real East Villagers probably turn up their noses at the “mixed” crowd, but a solid all-around experience has been had at this joint by every surveyor polled. The second floor is generally crowded, but not overcrowded, and you can even get a couch if you are savvy. The bar is small, but unlike other East Village bars, it’s small enough that the bartender can be attentive and isn’t busy flirting with Helga the monstrous super model. The crowd varies from Oasis wanna-bees to chicks-in-black to some of the usual downtown folk. All-in-all, it’s a mellow experience, with decent prices and a feeling that for one night, you’re in the place to be. [MF]
